چکیده

Comparison of water-free and water-mediated recognition processes within a synthetic resorcinarene-based self-assembled capsule shows that water can change the stoichiometry of binding as well as the selectivity and it can substantially restrict guest dynamics within the binding site.

Acetylene bubble-powered autonomous capsules: towards in situ fuel.

A fuel-free autonomous self-propelled motor is illustrated. The motor is powered by the chemistry of calcium carbide and utilising water as a co-reactant, through a polymer encapsulation strategy. Expulsion of acetylene bubbles powers the capsule motor. This is an important step, going beyond the toxic hydrogen peroxide fuel used normally, to find alternative propellants for self-propelled mach...

A study of properties of "micelle-enhanced" polyelectrolyte capsules: Structure, encapsulation and in vitro release.

"Micelle-enhanced" polyelectrolyte capsules were fabricated via a layer-by-layer technique, templated on hybrid calcium carbonate particles with built-in polymeric micelles based on polystyrene-b-poly(acrylic acid). Due to the presence of a large number of negatively charged micelles inside the polyelectrolyte capsule, which were liberated from templates, the capsule wall was reconstructed and ...

A polyaromatic nanocapsule as a sucrose receptor in water

Selective recognition of saccharides by artificial receptors in water is a challenging goal due to their strong hydrophilicities and complex molecular structures with subtle regio- and stereochemical differences. We report the selective and efficient encapsulation of d-sucrose within a coordination-driven molecular capsule from natural saccharide mixtures in water (~100% selectivity, >85% yield...

Dimeric resorcinarene salt capsules with very tight encapsulation of anions and guest molecules

Crystallization of N-cyclohexyl ammonium resorcinarene triflate from methanol results in a dimeric capsule capable of trapping two triflate anions and two methanol molecules within a 341 Å cavity while with 1,4-dioxane as a guest it forms a new larger dimeric capsule with volume of 679 Å encapsulating four 1,4-dioxane and four water molecules, resulting in packing coefficients of 0.75 and 0.67,...

Adaptive binding and selection of compressed 1,ω-diammonium-alkanes via molecular encapsulation in water.

Guest molecules confined inside hollow molecular assemblies and thus protected from their environment can show unexpected structural behavior or special reactivity compared to their behavior in a bulk, unprotected environment. A special case is the coiling behavior of variable-length alkane chains in rigid hydrogen-bonded molecular cages. It has been found before that coiling may occur in such ...
